Since 1999, Aircraft Appraisers of Southern California provides consultations,
USPAP appraisals, IRS & legal appraisals for both buyers and sellers of aircraft.

About Us

Welcome to Aircraft Appraisers of Southern California. We were founded in 1999 after the retirement of the owner, Captain John Folting, from the airlines. Captain Folting has been flying since 1959 and has more than 50 years of experience in and around aircraft of all makes and models. Captain Folting is a certified Senior Appraiser by the N.A.A.A., and USPAP certified.

We provide consultations, appraisals for both sellers and buyers of aircraft. We also specllize in aircraft that are not in any data base, such as War Birds of all types and makes.

In addition, we also provide information and FDIC usable certification for banks and for loan documentation, including value, ownership and equipment documentation. These same appraisals are also used to verify insurance value.

Why Should You Get an Appraisal?

If you are a buyer, you want to get the best value for your money. Most aircraft asking prices are not based on the aircraft's real value, but rather what the seller hopes to get, realistic or not. If you are the buyer you need to know what the aircraft's real worth is so that your offer is based on actual sales as determined by the database of the National Aircraft Appraisers Association and other sources. This information is updated each month. The information is very specific in each topic as to basic airrame value, engine residual value, paint residual value, avionics and many more detailed areas.

N.A.A.A. database is 7,000 Fixed wing, rotorcraft and homebuilt aircraft
N.A.A.A. was the first to use computerized results
N.A.A.A. was the first to use a standardized rating system

If you are a seller, you want to know what to price your aircraft at to achieve a resonable sales time. Good pricing can bring buyers to you first. Now, bankers and insurance personnel need to know what they are financing or insuring. Attorneys need information of value in estates, divorces or business aircraft buying.

Damage History

This is a very in-depth subject that has many areas to be dealt with. Lets go ahead and try to clarify it a little bit.

If you have two aircraft that are the same year, model and time on the airframe but one of those aircraft has damage history, which one would you buy if the prices were the same? Fairly straight-forward so far.

But what if you liked the one with damage history for some reason, such as paint scheme or lower total times, for example? There should be some pricing relief because of the damage history, but how much? This prevents you being upside down in an aircraft when you go to sell it later.

Here is where we can quantify this issue in to dollars and cents for you. Buyers should benefit by not paying too much for a damaged aircraft that has been fixed. Sellers would know how much less they can expect for their aircraft. Banks, insurance companies and buyers do not need to end up upside down in any sale.
